Czech artist Alphonse Mucha was a strong influence in the style, when Mucha produced a lithographed poster, which hit the streets of Paris on 1 January 1895 as an advertisement for the play Gismonda by Victorien Sardou.
Steampunk originated in the 1980's and early 1990's. It incorporates bits of science fiction, fantasy and horror. It involves an alternative history where everything is steam powered. Steampunk is sometimes adapted to fashion, art and design. Most steampunk is set in the Victorian times during the Industrial Revolution where people rely on steam and spring powered things than electricity but steampunk is sometimes set in the American Western era.
