Edgar Allen Poe was born in Boston in 1809 and die in Baltimore in 1849 at age 40 was an American author, poet, editor and literary critic. Poe is considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre. He was the first well-known American writer to try to earn a living through writing alone. He was an orphan as a child which is why he has a double barrelled name. His biggest phobia was being buried alive.
